While many of the travel insurers on the market offer cover for cruise holidays as standard, it’s important to check if you are covered should you arrive late to your cruise and miss your original embarkation time. It’s the stuff of nightmares – but unfortunately it does happen.

Many of the insurers on the Irish market offer cover to get you to the next docking point to meet the ship but this usually incurs an additional fee.

Before adding on this additional cover, call your travel agent or cruise representative and inquire as to what would happen should this situation arise. Some cruise packages offer this cover as standard and you may even stand to save yourself a few euros.

This cover would also come into play if your ship was unable to dock in the port due to bad weather and you were to subsequently miss your flight home.

Although some people might enjoy an extra night or two at sea.
